How this works
Almost every cricket calculation goes wrong in the same place: treating 17.4 as a decimal. It is not. It is 17 overs and 4 balls, which is 106 balls.
Convert to balls first, do the arithmetic, then convert back.
Common questions
Why can the digit after the point never be 6 or higher?
Because six legal balls complete an over. Once the sixth is bowled the over count goes up by one and the ball count resets to zero.
