Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) leadership for the Indian Premier League 2025 has been under quite a debate. The individual leading this talk is Virat Kohli, the man who was at the helm of affairs from 2013 to 2021 with the team going four times into the playoffs, eventually finishing runner-up in 2016. Following the decision to retire from the position, Kohli remains with the franchise.
RCB is looking forward to its options. According to sources, Kohli will be reinstated as a strong candidate. AB de Villiers, in one of his videos on his YouTube channel, claimed that he might lead RCB in the new season if one goes by the side currently available to the team.
However, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, said that nothing has been decided yet on the captaincy. He added that the franchise is looking at all options to get the best for the future of the team.

The seriousness of Kohli towards RCB is well-noted, because he has retained for INR 21 crores for the 2025 season. In fact, the player has assured his commitment towards the franchise to play for them until at least 2027. This further indicates that his long-term engagement with the side suggests him to be part and parcel of it.
The Bangalore-based franchise will look to address the leadership structure ahead of the 2025 IPL season. RCB is gearing up for the mega auction with a purse of INR 83 crore and plans to build a solid team that can fetch the first-ever IPL title for the franchise. The decision on the captain will be an important part of their strategy coming into the next season.
