He really made his impact in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season. Kotian scored 502 runs at an average of 41.83 and picked 29 wickets at 16.96 to lead Mumbai to title success and be rewarded with the Player of the Tournament award. Significantly, Kotian was the only man that season to manage 500 runs and 25 wickets.

In October, against the Rest of India in the Irani Cup, Kotian proved himself to be a complete cricketer by scoring 64 and an unbeaten 114 and taking three wickets, as Mumbai came out victorious in a thrilling match. His consistent performances for the domestic side did not go unnoticed by the selectors, and he was included in the India A team that toured Australia before the Test series. In a tour match in Melbourne, he did both bat and ball to further cement his position as a reliable all-rounder.

The Test series is now at 1-1, and Kotian’s inclusion will add depth to India’s spin department, which has Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. His ability to contribute significantly with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset as India aims to clinch the series in the remaining matches.
