The recent auction has seen young cricketer Sameer Rizvi moving over to Delhi Capitals for a whopping INR 95 lakh as he embarks on the IPL 2025 journey. The 20-year-old right-handed batsman had set his base price at INR 30 lakh and was in the radar of Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, his former side. Delhi finally won him over to add more talent to their batting department.
The beginning of Rizvi’s fame started in the UP T20 League, where he scored 455 runs with two centuries and six-hitting, which brought him attention to the IPL scouts. The uncapped player was put a price tag of INR 8.4 crore by CSK during IPL 2024. While he made a splash in his debut, hitting a six off Rashid Khan, Rizvi could not be consistent, scoring only 51 runs in eight matches. This probably led to his devaluation in the 2025 auction.

The Delhi Capitals, however, are seemingly optimistic about his not tapped potential. They perhaps put money on his explosive and big-stage hunger. Going in with a revitalised group of players, they should expect Rizvi to learn fast and anchor them a bit in their much troubled middle order.
As the 2025 season unfolds, this will be a journey that one could watch out for from Rizvi. Whether he makes up for those early failures and delivers to the expectations that he raised in the domestic circuit would be great to see, as will be how Delhi Capitals work him into the side.
