Born on November 21, 2000, in Cape Town, South Africa, Matthew de Villiers is a young player with great future potential. He has already marked his name in both domestic and international leagues. Despite the same surname, he is not related to AB de Villiers, even though there have been rumors surrounding the relationship. However because of this association, his cricketing genealogy is strong again because his maternal grandfather is Pieter Strydom, former South African cricketer.
Being one of the right-handed middle-order batsmen and handy medium/quick bowlers, Matthew is especially known for well-rounded cricket skills. He stands at an average good height. But what he also does very effectively is rotate the strike through his assaultive yet strategic batting style and keep moving the scoreboard, too. He is a player who knows how to strategically construct innings and often scores quickly through placement rather than forceful hitting. He can prove to be of good value to his team as a multi facet player as he bowls with options in off spin and right arm medium-fast seam.
Matthew has played cricket at South Africa’s Wynberg Boys High School. There, he showed promise but also more of an appetite for leadership. By being the skipper of his school’s first XI, his talents flourished further and made him a key player in South African cricket. Matthew featured in many UK leagues so far in his cricket career. He has produced some very strong performances, with hundreds and key wicket bowling to boot.
