Afghanistan defended the title they won earlier this year as they beat Bangladesh 2-1 in the climaxing match where Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Azmatullah Omarzai stood out.
Gurbaz was in typical form and displayed excellent innings smashing 101 runs in 120 balls for his side with much flair. Azmatullah Omarzai batting at 70 from 77 balls, tried very hard to come in the driving seat, earn partnerships and guide his team to a victory.
Afghanistan levelled up 5 wickets and played well to come to a winning position against Bangladesh having scored 244/8 in 50 overs. Afghanistan was the next team to achieve the target in 48.2 overs 246/5 .
This glorious victory brings joy for Afghan cricket as, along with winning the series, the talent and spirit of the team was aptly seen on the world stage. The series win also shows the progress in the ability and capability of Afghanistan cricket team in future ICC competitions.
That’s it, Gurbaz, Omarzai, and the rest of the Afghanistan team on this historic victory! This victory is surely the result of the sweat, determination and the passion that embodies Afghan cricket.
Top scorer for Bangladesh was Najmul Hossain Shanto with 47 runs. Afghanistan’s bowling was largely led by AM Ghazanfar who bowled well to concede 6 wickets for 26 runs, Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai performed the other major spells.
