The Melbourne Stars, one of the most prominent franchises in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), has been a regular feature since its inception in 2011. The team has achieved success in the regular season but could not win the BBL championship.
Historically, the Stars have made it to the finals three times within the 2015–16, 2018–19, and 2019–20 seasons, and each time they were just short of winning the championship. Their most recent run as runners-up in the 2019–20 season was particularly disappointing, as they dominated the regular season to finish as minor premiers but could not clinch the ultimate victory.

BBL|14, the Stars have brought in some strategic changes to break this pattern. One of the major appointments is that of Marcus Stoinis as the new captain, taking over from Glenn Maxwell. Stoinis, who has a decade-long association with the Stars, spoke about his excitement: “I had a little bit of a taste of captaining the side in Maxi’s absence last year and loved the opportunity, so to be given the role full-time is a great honour.”
The coaching staff has also been strengthened by the inclusion of Peter Moores, a seasoned coach with strong strategic skills. Moores’ leadership is expected to bring a new dimension and renewed energy to the campaign.
The Stars’ roster for the season will be an interesting mix of experience and exciting talent. Glenn Maxwell, having stepped down from captaincy, remains a key player. Scott Boland has the bowling depth to give the team some balance, while international recruit Tom Curran is expected to be a significant impact player with both bat and ball.
